Core Identity & Background

  • Primary Role: Controller / Network Intermediary (Support, disruption, ranged striker)

  • Personality: Observant, quiet, and strangely connected. Shinjo treats machines almost like people, listening to frequencies no one else can hear. His relationship with "Mother" blurs the line between utility and existential dread.

  • Background & Motivations: Shinjo was originally hired by Theris because of his uncanny ability to locate hidden valuable technology and sense machine activity before anyone else. Over time, he realizes his connection to the "Mother" network is deepening, blurring the line between utility and an unsettling digital dialogue.

Background and Connection Questions

When did you first realize that what you heard from machines wasn't ordinary intuition?

"I used to think I was just good at noticing things.

You know. The little things.

A machine drawing power when it shouldn't. A light flickering in a dead building. A pile of scrap that didn't feel right.

Then one day I stopped beside a wreck that everyone else had already searched.

I said there was something underneath it.

They laughed.

We dug it up.

There was a functioning core underneath.

After that, I started paying attention.

Eventually I realized I wasn't just noticing the machines.

Something was noticing me."

That preserves the established progression from strange intuition → Network sensitivity → Mother without jumping prematurely to "Shinjo knows he's talking to an AI."

Connection

Shinjo asks Theris:
"You didn't believe me when I told you about Mother. Why did you hire me anyway?"

Theris:

"Because I didn't hire you to tell me about Mother.

I hired you because you found things nobody else could find.

First job, you pointed at a pile of scrap everyone had walked past.

Elorin opened it.

There was enough good material inside to pay for the entire expedition.

So I had a choice.

Believe your story?

Didn't need to.

Believe that you were useful?

That was easy."
