Features & Traits

Heritage Features

  • High Stamina (Human): Gain an additional Stress slot at character creation.
    Reskin:  Operational Stamina

The additional Stress represents Yosef's ability to maintain several simultaneous information processes without immediately reaching overload:

    • threat models

    • telemetry streams

    • communications

    • defensive protocols

    • environmental data

    • predictive calculations

    This isn't primarily physical toughness.

    It's operational endurance.

  • Celestial Trance (Elf): During a rest, you can drop into a trance to choose an additional downtime move.
    Reskin:  Analytical Trance

    Yosef uses downtime to:

    • reconstruct previous encounters

    • analyze recovered technology

    • study remnants

    • process Network information

    • update threat profiles

    • prepare protocols

    • conduct field research

    • modify equipment

Motherboard makes this particularly appropriate because characters require Network access to perform downtime moves, and the campaign uses downtime for crafting and technological development.

So Celestial Trance isn't just "extra rest efficiency."

    It is:

Yosef's brain running post-operation analysis while everyone else is sleeping.

  • Dedicated (Orderborne): Record three sayings or values your upbringing instilled in you. Once per rest, when you describe how you're embodying one of these principles through your current action, you can roll a d20 as your Hope Die.

    • Orderborne Sayings: Information without action is wasted information, The squad survives because everyone knows what everyone else is doing, Never make the same mistake twice.

Class & Subclass Features

  • Spellcast Trait: Knowledge / Far (d8+1)

  • Hex: Mark a Stress to temporarily Hex a target within Far range. While Hexed, the target gains a penalty to their damage rolls and Difficulty equal to your tier. The maximum number of creatures you can Hex at one time is equal to your Spellcast trait.
    Reskin: Threat Vector Analysis

Yosef establishes a high-resolution profile of a priority adversary.

    He analyzes:

    • posture

    • movement

    • equipment

    • defensive habits

    • attack cycles

    • reaction timing

    • combat rhythm

The target is not magically controlled.

    The target isn't physically weakened.

    Instead:

Yosef has reduced the uncertainty surrounding that threat.

That information becomes mechanically beneficial to the squad.

    Tactical use

Hex → then Ledger or Blighting Strike.

Hex is an investment in a target worth sustained analytical attention.

  • Commune: Once per long rest during a moment of calm, you can commune with an ancestor, a deity, a spirit, or an otherworldly being. Ask them a question, then roll a number of d6s equal to your Spellcast trait. Choose one of the results and reference the chart below for the effect:

    • 1-3: You taste a flavor, smell a scent, or feel a sensation relevant to the answer.

    • 4-5: You hear sounds or see a vision relevant to the answer.

    • 6: You psychically experience a scene relevant to the answer as if you were there

    • Reskin: Deep Network / Field Research Query

Yosef does not commune with supernatural entities.

He conducts an advanced information query through:

      • Network data

      • recovered records

      • old databases

      • environmental evidence

      • remnant behavior

      • archived information

      • field research

      This is essentially:

Yosef asking the information ecosystem a question.

    • .
  • Herbal Remedies (Hedge Foundation): When you or an ally clear 1 or more Hit Points or Stress as the result of using a consumable, increase the number cleared by 1.
    Reskin: Field Recovery Protocol

    Yosef assesses:

    • dosage

    • timing

    • breathing

    • positioning

    • recovery process

and makes the recovery more effective.

    He's not magically healing anyone.

He's making the squad's existing recovery resources work better.

    Role

    Passive squad sustainability.

  • Enchanted Talisman (Hedge Foundation): Once per rest, you can imbue a small item with your protective essence. Spend any number of Hope to place an equal number of tokens on this card. When the person holding the talisman takes damage, spend a token to reduce the number of Hit Points they mark by one. Clear all tokens from this card when you take a rest.
    Reskin:  Assigned Defensive Protocol

The physical talisman is optional in the fiction.

    Instead:

Yosef assigns a personalized defensive protocol to one squad member.

The protocol is keyed to their combat profile.

    When the ally takes damage:

    the protocol activates.

    The mechanical reduction happens normally.

The narrative describes how Yosef's preconfigured defensive analysis allows that person to mitigate the consequence.

    Role

    Pre-operation squad protection.

Experiences & Hope Features

  • Threat Intelligence & Systems Analysis: +2
Yosef studies remnants, creatures, equipment, environments, structures, weapons, and unfamiliar technological systems to determine what they are, how they function, what they're capable of, and where their vulnerabilities lie.

  • Squad Coordination & Operations Command: +2
Yosef turns analysis into precise instructions, assigning information to the right squad member at the right moment and adapting recommendations to the capabilities of the people under his command.

  • Witch's Charm: When you or an ally within Far range fails an action roll, you can spend 3 Hope to change it into a success with Fear instead.
    Reskin: Real-Time Corrective Guidance Protocol

    This is not time reversal.

    The fictional timing is:

The action is about to resolve.

    Yosef identifies a mistake.

    He broadcasts a correction.

    The acting character adjusts.

The result becomes a success with Fear.

    Example:

"You're overcommitting. Shift right. Don't chase it."

    "Now."

The original failure never fully manifests.

    Tactical role

    Emergency command intervention.

This is one of Yosef's defining abilities.

Equipment & Inventory

Weapons & Armor

  • Ikonis Weapon (olographic Tactical Tablet (Projects geometric tactical overlays and threat maps): Trait: Knowledge / Range: Far / Damage: d8+1
  • Gambeson Armor: Armor Score: 3, Base Thresholds: 5 / 11

    • Feature: Flexible: +1 to Evasion

Inventory & Wealth

  • Items: Torch, Rope (50 ft), Basic supplies, Augment: Converge, Augment: Guard

  • Gold: 0 Chests, 0 Bags, 1 Handful, 0 Coins, 0 Stashed

Domain Cards

  • Gifted Tracker (Level 1, Sage / Ability)

    • Recall Cost: 0

    • Status: In Loadout

    • Effects: When you’re tracking a specific creature or group of creatures based on signs of their passage, you can spend any number of Hope and ask the GM that many questions from the following list.
      • What direction did they go?
      • How long ago did they pass through?
      • What were they doing in this location?
      • How many of them were here?
When you encounter creatures you’ve tracked in this way, gain a +1 bonus to your Evasion against them..

    • Reskin: Telemetry Trail Reconstruction

      Yosef reconstructs:

      where a creature went
      how long ago it passed
      what it was doing
      how many were present

      and builds a predictive profile.

  • Blighting Strike (Level 1, Dread / Spell)

    • Recall Cost: 1

    • Status: In Loadout

    • Effects: Make a Spellcast Roll against a target within Far range. On a success, the target takes d6+1 magic damage using your Proficiency and the next time the target deals damage to an ally, it is reduced by half. If you succeed with Fear, the target instead takes d10+1 magic damage using your Proficiency.
    • Yosef performs a deeper analysis of an adversary's combat model.

      The damage is:

      Operational Degradation.

      The half-damage rider is:

Yosef has predicted the target's next attack pattern and broadcast the appropriate counter-information to his squad.

He isn't magically weakening its body.

He's reducing the effective consequence of its next successful attack through information.

      Role

      Target suppression + Operational Degradation.

Core Identity & Background

  • Class & Subclass: Witch (Hedge)

  • Heritage & Community: Part-Elf / Loreborne

  • Primary Role: Battlefield Intelligence & Squad Coordination (Support, debuff, utility)

  • Personality: Quietly analytical, composed, precise, dry, and attentive. Yosef is a quietly observant person who applies his natural talent for pattern recognition to tactical oversight. He doesn't command the crew, but he ensures they survive their choices by observing what others overlook.

  • Background & Motivations: Yosef developed his keen pattern recognition naturally by observing conflict, movement, and environmental shifts. Rather than being a frontline fighter or a machine engineer, he serves as the squad's critical eye, advising Theris and ensuring everyone makes it back from the Wastes in one piece.

Core Operational Doctrine

Zero-Interference Protocol

  • Yosef does not physically attack, touch, restrain, frighten, hack, or directly manipulate adversaries.

    His offensive rolls represent:

calculating spatial telemetry, structural physics, combat rhythms, equipment behavior, and operational vulnerabilities, then broadcasting the resulting information to his squad.

He remains physically in the backline whenever circumstances allow.

Operational Degradation

  • When Yosef deals damage, the damage is not a physical wound caused by Yosef.

    It represents:

systemic degradation and the wearing down of the adversary's operational margin.

For example, an enemy with 3 HP takes 1 damage from Yosef.

    Mechanically:

    3 HP → 2 HP.

    Narratively:

Yosef's analysis has reduced that enemy's effective combat capacity.

The resulting consequence is then handed back to the table.

The squad or GM can determine whether that manifests as:

    • compromised armor

    • an exposed actuator

    • a broken formation

    • an inefficient attack cycle

    • loss of mobility

    • depleted resources

    • a tactical opening

    • some other appropriate consequence

Yosef establishes the mechanical operational degradation, but does not dictate how the fiction must manifest it. This preserves the "throw the ball into play" principle we've established for him.

Motherboard Integration

Motherboard changes the fictional medium, not Yosef's underlying concept.

The campaign frame explicitly replaces magic with technology and allows Spellcasting characters to determine what technology, tools, and processes produce their abilities. It also converts magic damage into tech damage. (Daggerheart)

So Yosef is not occult.

His abilities are sophisticated technomancy.

Yosef's technological vocabulary

Game conceptYosef interpretation

HexThreat Vector Analysis
CommuneDeep Network / Field Research Query

Enchanted TalismanAssigned Defensive Protocol

This is particularly appropriate because Motherboard's Ikonis is explicitly a personalized technological weapon that can evolve through augments.

Background and Connection Questions

When did you realize that paying attention to people could keep them alive?

"I don't think there was a single moment.

You notice patterns.

Someone always looks toward the exit before they lie.

Someone always shifts their weight before they attack.

A group becomes quieter when they're about to do something stupid.

A frightened person stops watching the thing they're afraid of.

These things repeat.

Eventually you learn that noticing them early is useful.

Then someone asks you to come along because apparently people survive more often when you're nearby.

I didn't see any reason to argue."

Connection

Yosef asks Elorin:
"When you find something dangerous, why do you keep touching it?"

Elorin:

"Because it's usually the dangerous things that are interesting."

Yosef: "That's not reassuring."

"You asked."

Yosef: "I did."

"Besides, dangerous doesn't mean unusable. It means we need to understand the failure conditions."

Yosef: "And if you don't?"

"Then you stop me."

Yosef: "I do."

"Yes. I've noticed."
